About

In this site we share tips, tricks and life hacks for parents and other managers, with an emphasis on how to not miss appointments and other responsibilities when your memory is unreliable. We also share ways to cut down on the effort to organize thoughts over and over again. Appropriate comments and guest posts are welcome and encouraged.

I am Christian, female, frugal, sarcastic, and I am a crazy cat lady wannabe, but I only have two hands. My husband and I are semi-retired foster/adoptive parents, with just one special young man left at home and we have five little spitfires who call us Meme and Pops. We parented eighteen children, nine of whom were babies.  I have worked with  special needs children. (Aren’t we all “special needs”?) I am a trauma and loss survivor. I have studied elementary education, occupational therapy and child development. I have been a NAMI instructor and group facilitator. I have been an office manager and human resources manager. (A home and family are harder to manage.) Feel free to contact me at : Lynn@TheUnconventionalista.com.

Many conditions and circumstances interfere with our ability to remember, and to process information. I have experienced most of them. Now I struggle with Mild Cognitive Impairment on my way toward vascular dementia. I have reasons for my brain not to work properly. Still parenting in my sixties, I have a compelling need  to be organized and remember appointments and meetings. I am embarrassed when I miss an appointment or meeting, so now I have systems in place and I rarely miss one.

In this blog you will find what I use to “remember” things when my brain cannot be trusted to. You will also find tips, tricks and hacks to make life better and/or less aggravating, that I have discovered along the way. I am always looking for more efficient ways to navigate life, questioning the “normal” way to do things, and I love to share what I discover. So come alongside and let’s enjoy the journey together!
