What is my password?
User Name and Password Organizer
Planner-part 3
With a failing memory, user names and passwords can be nearly impossible to remember. Again, I built a system to help me while still maintaining some privacy and security. First I found a section in my planner to record things. The Homemaker’s Friend planner is the most useful one. In the info tab is a section of pages with squares. I use one square for each letter of the alphabet. It takes three pages. (That is an affiliate link. I will earn a small commission if you purchase through it. It will not affect your price.)
User names are my email when possible and what’s before the @ in my email, when it has to be shorter. I put a name for the site and @ for email as user name. If there’s nothing there I know it’s what comes before the @. If it’s an older user name I put the first few letters down to jog my memory. Passwords are easy to change and I recommend changing all of yours to match The System. Pick a random word like Bottle. Capitalize it. Then pick a numeral to put on each end: 7Bottle7. If there’s no note for the password, I know this is the one. It meets the requirements of many sites. If more is required, add a symbol, like 7Bottle7%. This version I use for all banks and credit cards. I record these by just put the symbol down.
Now when a site requires changing the password, I add a bit of the site name to our old password. 7Bottle7%ms is for Microsoft. Facebook can be 7Bottle7%fb or 7Bottle7%facebk. For these, just record what is after the %.
So far, this organizer system “remembers” enough for me. However, knowing mine is a degenerative disease, I have given the one who will take over paying bills, etc. the base password and an explanation of the codes. I would NOT keep the base password and the explanation in the same place! Having children in the home, or in the event of a break-in, you don’t want the culprits to be able to help themselves to all your accounts. If you don’t have a planner yet, I highly recommend The Homemakers Friend. It does so much more than just keep your months and weeks.
